About our auctions
What types of items can I consign for auction?
We consider items such as:
- Certified coins
- Rare banknotes
- Mint condition proofs or sets
- Gold and silver bullion pieces
- Error coins
- Numismatic collections and estates
Do you accept modern circulation coins?
Most modern circulation coins do not qualify for auction.
We generally only consider:
- Certified or rare coins
- Mint errors
- High-value numismatic items
Are your auctions online or in person?
All our auctions are hosted online and presented live by an online auctioneer. You can follow the bidding and participate in real time from anywhere on our bidding platform or the Bassani's app.
Does my R5 or R2 have collector value?
No. R5 and R2 coins are modern circulation issues and have no collector value.
Do you buy coins or banknotes?
No. We do not purchase items, we are an auction house. If your items qualify, we offer them at auction on your behalf. See the consignment questions below for how to submit items for evaluation.
Consigning
How do I submit items for auction evaluation?
Please send clear photos of your items via our WhatsApp number- 065 501-3199
Our team will assess the items and let you know whether they qualify for auction. Note that all value estimates are non binding and hammer price reflects bidder activity. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.
Can I bring items to you in person?
No. We operate exclusively as an online business.
If our team believes your items meet our auction requirements, we will advise whether an in-person appointment is necessary. Appointments are by scheduling only.
What is the consignment process?
Our consignment process includes the following steps:
- Item evaluation via images
- Acceptance & agreement
- Cataloging
- Auction listing
- Sale and settlement
Full details can be found in our General Auction Process section.
How long does it take to sell my items at auction?
The complete process, from acceptance to auction sale, typically takes 4-6 weeks. Updates are provided before your items go live.
What are your auction fees or commissions?
Auction commissions vary depending on the type and value of the items. Fees may include a seller’s commission.
You will receive a full breakdown before your consignment is finalized.
Do you guarantee a selling price?
No. Auctions determine value through competitive bidding.
While we provide guidance, final hammer prices are not guaranteed and may be higher or lower than estimated.
What happens if my item does not sell?
If an item does not receive any bids, we will contact you to discuss your options. These may include:
- Relisting the item
- Returning the item to you
- Reassessment for future auctions
Can I withdraw my item before auction?
No, not after the cataloging process has begun.
If you choose to withdraw items at that stage, administration and photography fees may apply.
Do you issue authentication certificates?
All items are sold strictly in accordance with the auction lot description. If a certificate accompanies an item, this will be clearly stated in the listing. Each item is sold as photographed and described.
Do you handle full numismatic collections or estate sales?
Absolutely. We specialize in:
- Collection evaluations
- Cataloging large groups of coins or notes
- Estate liquidation through auction
Can I track my items once consigned?
Yes. Consignors receive updates 1 week before items go live.
You will be notified about:
- Auction dates
- Results
- Settlement timelines
Please keep in mind our standard 4-6 week turnaround time.
Buying and payments
How do bidders pay for auction items?
Payments are processed by EFT only.
You will find our banking details at the bottom of your invoice. If you haven’t received your invoice, please send us a WhatsApp message and we will resend it.
How will I get paid after auction?
Payment is made via EFT (bank transfer) once the buyer has paid and the transaction has cleared.
Settlement terms will be communicated to you upon acceptance in the form of an Auction Recon.
Bassani’s takes 14-21 days to process payments once an auction has concluded and consignors receive their reconciliation.

Yes, we offer secure shipping via The Courier Guy.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we can arrange international shipping.
- Costs: Our standard international courier fee for a small package is R2,500, which will be added to your invoice before dispatch.

Please contact us if you intend to ship internationally so the necessary arrangements can be made.
